Usually the only 2 waist exercises that most people perform are the standard crunch and the sit up. While these ab exercises can be effective up to a point, they certainly are not the most productive stomach exercises to do.
An exercise ball can take your ab training to another level. You will have to be careful initially as it can be hard to balance, but with a bit of practice you should master this without any problems.
Seat yourself on the ball and place your hands on the side. You then lean back a little and lift your legs up. Balancing on the ball properly may take a while. Smaller stomach stabiliser muscles will get a workout in this way.
These stabiliser muscles would not get any sort of workout if you were doing this on the floor. You then start moving your feet in a cycling motion, just like you were trying to ride a bike. Once you’ve done this a few times, try removing your hands off the ball to make it more challenging.
The next exercise will be like a normal crunch but also done with the use of an exercise ball. You will put your hands on your chest while you are seated on the ball while doing this exercise. The difference to a standard crunch will be that instead of pushing your torso forward, you will take your legs up to the torso. So lean back a little and try to bring your knees as close to your chest as possible.
Again stabiliser muscles will be used to try and keep you balanced. You will feel your ab muscles being targeted, and even more so if you do this exercise slowly.
The thing to keep in mind is that you need to choose waist exercises that are going to target different areas of the stomach. This will allow a wider area of your stomach to get a workout and give you a better end result.
You can really hit your abdominal muscles hard with just these 2 waist exercises, but you should use a variety of exercises. There are no end of really effective waist exercises that you can do as part of your ab workouts to get great abs.
